Nadezda Prvulovic / Kaneem Smith

Nadezda Prvulovic’s artwork captures the surreal power of industrial imagery through monumental gouache on paper and canvas paintings. Her abstracted images of blast furnaces and steel-making machinery express emotionally charged visions of machine-age landscapes. Despite being born in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Prvulovic now lives in Houston, Texas, and has exhibited her work in thirty-two solo exhibitions worldwide. In contrast, Denton-based artist Kaneem Smith creates evocative mixed media sculptural forms that appear deceptively weightless, utilizing materials such as felt, burlap, aluminum, and bronze. Each component of Smith’s organic body of work is open for interpretation, from cocoon-like vessels to bound bundles implying bondage. Smith’s work has recently been shown in solo and two-person exhibitions in Dallas, Houston, and Galveston, and she currently teaches at the University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University in Denton.
